Is anybody flying with the military 084 generator engine? It was designed by Continental and built by both them and various sub-contractors. I have one of the Continental engines. They ran generators on the battlefield 24/7 and are a tough little engine. Mine is rebuilt but not yet started. I am putting together an exhaust and looking for a 30mm Mikuni carb. Lots of these flying in the US, also on airboats. They weigh 120lbs and make about 42 hp. Look like a miniature 0-200. Mine is going in a Preceptor N3 Pup.

Hi,
I live in northern BC Canada and I am very interested in your N3 pup with the 084 engine. I am trying do decide between the Fisher FP-303 and the MiniMax line of aircraft, do you have any experiance with either of these or do you know which would be better aircraft to build from plans/kit? Also I was wondering if you know of any MiniMax kits or projects for sale in Canada or just anyone building one in BC,AB,or SK? I am leaning towards the Minimax 1600R or 1300Z (flat firewall) so I can use a 2A042 military engine and still fly in the winter with the enclosed canopy. Also I would like to suggest going with a 34mm Mikuni or Bing carburetor on that 084 of yours, I am quite sure it could handle it and you might even get a bit more power.

Let me know.

Thank you very much,

Sterling

Hi. Sorry for the long wait for a reply. We have moved provinces and I am just now getting back to hobby things. The 042 has flown in ultralight aircraft but from what I understand it is very borderline in terms of power. Only the very lightest aircraft do well with it. These engines suffer from a weight penalty. The Mini-Max is one aircraft that has flown with an 042, but this is very dependent on pilot weight and the gross of the aircraft. A local flying club member is building an Eros but intends to use a 2 stroke on it ( horrors! ). There are lots of Mini-Max projects on Barnstormers. Check that and Ebay.

Hi,
Thanks for replying, I had forgot I posted that until now. Anyway since then I have purchased a Fisher Super Koala and a Mini-MAX 1100R project so I am not looking for one anymore. I am always checking Barnstormers and eBay regularly. I have bought a 084 engine from vancouver and am building a cog redrive for it to swing my 72" in-flight adjustable prop on the Koala, and the little max is about ready for covering! Anyway, are you flying your 084 on the Pup or do you have any pics of it, I would be very interested in your experience with the 084, mine weighs 125lbs but I will build a light oil pan which will help. I am also working on a small 4 stroke engine for the Minimax.

Thank you,

Sterling

Moving has eaten all the hobby money and time. Hope to get back to it soon. Go on the Yahoo Groups web site and look up the AO84 Experimenters group. There is a wealth of experience on flying that engine in ultralights on that site.

I recently got a A084 engine and have been looking it over.
I need the tachometer drive assembly and exhaust mounting flanges.

I also need to know where to find a cogged belt and pulleys for a redive, but have not been able to find much information or suppliers.
