Hi folks

I was just wondering, as instructors, do you instruct at an ultralight FTU or do you do it more or less freelance? If it's freelance and you have a half dozen students, where would you get together to teach the ground school portion of the training since you wouldn't have the luxury of having a FTU classroom?....and which do YOU prefer as instructors....FTU or freelance?

Thanks

Wayne

Hey Wayne,
First when I started around 94,95 I went out and bought a little trailer which served the purpose quite well. At times I had up to 5 people doing the ground school and could offer the student a discount at that point not to mention a bedroom in the back if they were needed it. However, since that time TC came up with the idea that new rules were needed and potential students either didn't bother to apply for UL permit as the Rec licence was probably a better way to go and so on --- then because we as instructors couldn't say for sure what was going to come down the tubes. There was almost complete chaos. Now it seems maybe things will be getting on good ground again and even though some rules clash with others ie floats in ultralights vs floats in General Aviation we are on the right track.
Right now everything with me is freelance and I think one on one is a perfect combination unless you run into that one who "has already done that before the other way".
Safe flying,
Mac
