Hi there
I have been doing some research on starting an Ultralight Training Facility in Ontario and stumbled upon your story through the UPAC Forum. After viewing your website it seems as though things worked out well. I was wondering if you had any basic advise or suggestions with regard to insurance, aircraft selection or any major startup hurdles?. I have looked at and heard about the challenger and it seems like it might fit the bill. Any help is much appreciated.
Thanks
Matt
Guilty as charged, did RGS in '03 and I've been flying gliders ever since. Thought it was time to get back into powered flying.. but owning a certified aircraft is just too expensive these days.
I had actually initially dismissed the challenger.. it wasn't, what should I say, "my type of plane". I preferred something more like a highlander but quickly discovered it was out of my price range. I have been looking at some other models, such as the Chinook Plus 2. I was aware of the glide ratio on the challanger.. I read about 10:1, even the Katanas I trained on have 15:1.. but ability to glide really isn't factoring into my buying decision that much. For me it would be more of a "safety margin" at low altitude than anything else.
Before I make any decisions I think I'm going to make a trip over to the local aerodrome and talk to some pilots and see what they have to say.
Oh and thanks for the link. I'd stumbled across it but hadn't done a ton of poking around on the site.
