Hey Dyceman I was wondering if you could tell me if powered glider units like the Mosquito and Wasp are considered LSA or if a hang gliding license would be enough to use them in Canada/Ontario?

Hi there Trevor! And welcome back to you!

I was wonder what "super moderator" was I hop on the forum when I can to see what's happening - and post or respond if I think I have anything meaningful to share. Not being an acutal UL flyer/owner, I certainly can't claim to be an expert or anything.

Flying is going fine - still renting Cessna's from WWFC in Kitchener. 20 - 25 hours per year. Between available time and money, it's still more or less the easiest option for me know. I briefly lost my medical for 9 months last year due to a an overzealous ER doctor who thought he should forward my loss of consciousness incident to Tranpsort (minor injury and then black out). What a pain in the butt to get it all straightened out. He put on paper that my symptons exhibited "seizure-like" qualities. . . .and that's all it took. It took months to get an appointment with a Neurologist. 5 minutes into my appointment and reviewing my file, he just laughed an apologized for the fuss. No seizure at all of course, and he said the ER doctor was being exceptionally cautious.

Oh well - back to flying again. Not a lot, but getting some hours in. How about you? Gonna get back into flying or no?

    Talk to you later

Thanks for the info. I was at UPAC this year, had a good chat with some of the Zenith builders and based on how often I'd hope to be airborne, the AULA seems like a better route. Safe landings!

Thanks for your insights. It's ironic; the cost savings sure narrow in a hurry when you tack on all the associated AULA expenses. Out of curiousity, how does WWFC handle day or overnight rentals? I assume there's a minimum charge. I did an intro flight there last spring, had a blast but I'm still not sure which path is best for me. Thanks for your time.

Hi Dyceman, quick Q for you. I see you have a PPL and I'm wavering between and AULA and PPL. I figure about $50K to get a decent AULA built, kitted and flying plus regular monthly expenses on top of that whereas a PPL has an upfront cost of only (only?) $12K. What kind of expenses do you incur after getting your PPL and do you find the AULA is a much more cost effective approach? I'd like to be able to putter about Ontario but even a day trip at $150/hr in a C172, that's gotta be getting expensive. Thanks for your time.
