Sorry if I am asking a question that has been asked before but I am just looking at some clarification, Can I import a plane registered as a LSA from the US and fly it on an UL permit and carry passengers? I know It will have to comply to UL regs as far as 1232lbs gross and 45 stall and it has to be listed with TC for AULA. How do I go about importing or registering as an AULA? Thanks for your input!

As far as I know it matters not if it is LSA or home built, what you need and have to have is a Statement of Conformity from the manufacture, that is required for AULA registration. Some manufactures will issue them after the fact on an already built kit but not too many. Before trying to do it I'd contact the manufacture or head dealer in Canada and ask if they will give an SOC for a LSA brought across the boarder, tell them exactly what you want to do and they will say yes or no, get it in writting that they will do it and hope they are good to their word.

Thank you Eastcoast Beaver! I have also heard now from others that it is either impossible or at the least difficult,
May you have Blue skys and Tailwinds where ever you go! |

My Tornado has been through the hoops: first built and registered Amatuer built, then registered Basic u/l, and now (after getting a SOC from Titan) registered as an Advanced u/l. Not much difficulty was encountered at all. Like Eastcoast Beaver says, getting a Statement of Conformity from the manufacturer is the key. After that, no problem.
Your other question, about passenger carrying - if AULA the plane is legal for passengers, but you would need the passenger-carrying endorsment for your UL permit, or else have a Rec permit or Private license. -Matt |

cool Titain must be one of the few companys that will help you ou by giving and SOC, unlike some that only want to sell new kits instead

Thanks a lot! It is nice to hear that titan did that for you! It happens that it was a tornado I was thinking about but I'm to late for that one now, I will ask you about how you like your titan Mattew but I shouldn't deviate from the subject on this thread

Titan is a top notch company for sure. I suspect that being built and registered previously under our amatuer-built rules satisfied them to some extent.
Flyingmerle, I'm not really pushing it too much -soft market- but my Tornado is still for sale. Don't know if it was the one you were considering or not, my ad expired on UPAC online classifieds. I heard it flies well on floats so I'm buiding amphibs for it. -Matt |
